The bead. Seven outcast kids who have nothing but each other face a thing that eats children, and the weapon that actually works is the bond between them.
Engines
- belonging · content · spine · ~ — the Losers' Club: the found-family of bullied, stuttering, outcast kids whose loyalty to one another is literally the force that defeats It. Belonging is load-bearing — the monster feeds on isolation and fear, and the cure is the pack that refuses to let each member face it alone.
- security/safety · content · also-runs · ~ — It is a predatory threat to children specifically; the wish is to make the town (and childhood itself) safe, the defense mounted at terrible cost across two timelines.
The bundle. A belonging spine wrapped in a survival-horror threat — the found-family as the thing that beats the dark, with the safety wish as its stakes.
Dual-use read. Belonging's counterfeit is the cult/gang "we are your real family now" recruitment — submersion in the group as the price of acceptance. King's version is the enabling pole: the Losers are equals, the loyalty is chosen and costly, and no one is asked to surrender the self to belong.
Verdict. A belonging specimen at horror scale — the childhood found-family rendered as the only thing strong enough to face what hunts them.
