The reading
The bead. To be the nobody farm boy who, through training he submits to, becomes able to do the one impossible thing no one else could.
Engines
- mastery · content · spine · ~ — Luke starts not-yet-able: a stuck Tatooine moisture-farmer who can barely use a lightsaber. The film is a capability build — Obi-Wan's tutelage, the Force as a learnable discipline — paid out in the trench run, where he switches off the targeting computer and lands the shot only trained capability could make.
- belonging · content · also-runs · ~ — the orphan with no place is recognized as kin: heir to a Jedi lineage and adopted into the Rebellion, given a role among people who want him.
The bundle. The coming-of-age bundle: mastery's earned capability + belonging's recognition-as-kin — the placeless boy becomes both able and claimed.
Dual-use read. Mastery's counterfeit is the badge without the build — capability conferred by birthright or destiny rather than earned. Star Wars mostly runs the bright pole: Luke trains, fails, and the climactic shot reads as discipline rewarded. The lineage reveal seeds the counterfeit (power as inheritance), but here the inheritance still has to be practiced into ability.
Verdict. A clean mastery spine with a belonging also-run — the archetypal "farm boy becomes hero by learning to" payout, run at the bright pole.
