The engine is belonging at the constructive-rather-than-joined register + recognition at the mutual-loose-witness sub-mode of the affirmed pole, run at network scale.

Engines

The bundle. The find: Nelson's mutual-loose-witness sub-mode of the affirmed pole is confirmed by scale-generalization. The mechanism is the same (bearing each other witness across ongoing change, the relation held loosely so both bearers can keep transforming); the scale differs (dyad vs network). Both specimens run the sub-mode at slot-proven strength. The sub-mode graduates from provisional on one specimen to slot-proven at two specimens across two scales.

The scale-generalization is structurally informative: mutual-loose-witness names a mechanism (mutual bearing across change) rather than a configuration (specifically a dyad). The engine model can admit the sub-mode without specifying dyad-vs-network; the configuration is a register variable beneath the mechanism.

A second observation: Maupin runs belonging and recognition as paired spines. The two engines fire together at full strength because the chosen-family-form (belonging-as-constructed) and the mutual-loose-witness (recognition-affirmed-with-change) are mutually reinforcing at the network register — the family-form makes the network of witnesses possible; the network of witnesses sustains the family-form. Consumption. Maupin's Tales of the City began as a 1976 serial in the San Francisco Chronicle and grew into nine novels (1978-2014). The evidence (compact)

Per token-economy, this dossier carries the verdict on the structural finding — Nelson's sub-mode generalizes from dyad to network — rather than restating the per-bearer slot-fill for each Barbary Lane tenant. The finding rests on two observations:

  1. The Barbary Lane chosen-family is constructed, not joined. No tenant arrives at 28 Barbary Lane through a pre-existing community-claim. Mary Ann arrives from Cleveland, takes the apartment because she answered an ad; Michael moves in similarly; Anna Madrigal builds the family by giving each tenant a joint and a welcome at the door.
