The reading

The bead. To be lifted out of want into a mass of described, catalogued plenty — the savored wealth itself, named and heaped, felt against the poverty it replaces.

Engines

Dual-use read. Abundance's counterfeit is the luxe life sold minus the meansyou too can have all this; the abundance is one mindset away; no capital, no labor, no luck required. The documented ancestor is Wallace D. Wattles' The Science of Getting Rich (#59844), the New Thought root of the "abundance mindset": it keeps the slot-3 payoff ("The desire for riches is really the desire for a richer, fuller, and more abundant life") while denying the slot-2 means ("No one is prevented from getting rich by lack of capital"; "You may be the poorest man on the continent, and be deeply in debt; you may have neither friends, influence, nor resources; but if you begin to do things in this Way, you must infallibly begin to get rich"). It is distinct from apotheosis's Trine even though both are New Thought: Wattles' payoff is relentlessly material (money, property, "money enough to buy all he wants"), not divinity or power. (Corroborating: Veblen's The Theory of the Leisure Class (#833) names the bait mechanism — "Conspicuous consumption of valuable goods is a means of reputability" — the displayed plenty that drives pecuniary emulation.) The wish-valence guard is the difference: Ali Baba carts home real gold (real means, really possessed), where the counterfeit grants the feeling of abundance with nothing behind it — the modern MLM / "boss-babe" / luxury-influencer pipeline, which sells the lifestyle photo and the starter kit to those who fund the seller's actual plenty.

Consumption. Curate the appearance of plenty to feel wealthy — the rented Lamborghini, the staged flat-lay, the "living my best life" feed — the badge of abundance standing in for the means.

Verdict. Abundance's primary specimen: a folk tale runs the engine because the engine is the wish to be lifted out of scarcity into savored, catalogued plenty. The wish is the things, heaped and named — not a higher social price (→ not repricing) and not a lover (→ not being-desired; contrast Aladdin #128, where the same jewels are the bride-price, a rider on being-desired). The tale then turns thriller, so abundance is the spine of the wish-beat, not the whole plot — carried clean in a maximally-different register by A Little Princess (#146).

Evidence. Slot-proven — Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" (The Arabian Nights: Their Best-known Tales) (all three slots verbatim against Gutenberg #20916). The sibling specimen is A Little Princess (#146, the Victorian domestic-interior register; the Aladdin #128 rider correctly excluded as instrumental-to-being-desired); the counterfeit is in counterfeit-catalog (Wattles' The Science of Getting Rich, #59844).

The evidence

The clean specimen of abundance's scarcity-into-plenty shape: a man held in poverty is delivered into a catalogued mass of described wealth, and the payoff is the lingering, savored plenty itself — not a lover (being-desired), not a higher social price (repricing), but the things, named and heaped. The plenty is terminal here, which is what isolates abundance as a spine: no romance and no revenge live at the payoff beat — the savored wealth is the event.

Slot 1 — Scarcity (the want the plenty is priced against)

Ali Baba is introduced in poverty, his living scraped from daily labour:

"lived in a very wretched habitation, and had no other means to maintain his wife and children but his daily labour of cutting wood" (ll. 7124–7125)

This is the remembered want that the plenty is felt against — the wish-valence guard. Without this contrast the cave would be set-dressing; with it, the heap is a wish.

Slot 2 — The plenty really acquired (real means behind it, really possessed)

The wealth is not a feeling or a promise — Ali Baba physically enters, loads, and carts home real gold; the plenty rests on real means really possessed:

"He never regarded the silver, but made the best use of his time in carrying out as much of the gold coin as he thought his three asses could carry." (ll. 7190–7192)

This is the slot the counterfeit skips: the genuine engine's plenty has actual wealth behind it.

Slot 3 — Immersion in savored, catalogued plenty

The payoff is the described mass of wealth, itemized and heaped — abundance's signature move, the savored catalogue:

"He saw all sorts of provisions, rich bales of silk stuff, brocade, and valuable carpeting, piled upon one another; gold and silver ingots in great heaps, and money in bags." (ll. 7182–7184)
"He then emptied the bags, which raised such a great heap of gold as dazzled his wife's eyes" (ll. 7208–7209)

The catalogue lingers; the heap dazzles. The wish is the plenty, savored as such.

Guard / distinctness — abundance, not repricing, not being-desired, not mastery

The wish-valence guard: the plenty is priced against remembered scarcity (felt as abundance only against the woodcutter's want) and really possessed (real gold, carted home), not merely displayed.

Rider contrast — Aladdin (#128) sharpens the guard. The same jewel-and-treasure imagery appears in Aladdin, but there the plenty is instrumental: the jewels are the bride-price to win the princess ("Ought I not to bestow the princess on one who values her at such a price?"), so abundance rides being-desired, marriage is the end, and the plenty is a means. Abundance isolates as a spine only when the plenty is terminal (Ali Baba) and reads as a rider when instrumental to a relational wish (Aladdin).

Honest caveat: Ali Baba's tale then pivots to a thriller (Cassim's death, Morgiana and the oil-jars), so abundance is the spine of the wish/opening beat, not the whole plot — still a near-pure specimen for the wish, exactly as the genuine specimen of an engine need not run the engine end to end.

Result

All three slots fill; the wish is the savored, catalogued plenty, priced against scarcity and really possessed. Tagged abundance — the scarcity-into-plenty shape. The maximally-different second specimen, A Little Princess (#146), carries the same wish in a Victorian domestic-interior register (A Little Princess).
